A Baby's Attention at Play (2012)
By Anna Tardos and Geneviève Appell
Drawing on the many years worth of observations made by Anna Tardos, the authors define different levels of attention that children between the ages of 9 and 12 months demonstrate in their spontaneous play. We see how the attention of the children fluctuates between these different types of attention, how long they remain in one type and when they switch.
Anna Tardos is the daughter of Emmi Pikler, and currently director of the Emmi Pikler Institute in Budapest where she has worked as a psychologist since the early 1960s. She is the author and co-author of numerous books and articles in many languages.
The French psychologist Genevieve Appell is a recognised authority for early childhood, and the founding president of Association Pikler-Loczy in France. She is the author, alongside Myriam David, of the book 'Loczy: An Unusual Approach to Mothering'.
